Ok…12 hrs of driving and I am back in good ole’ SST.
Here’s the low down, and this may be the first and last time pictures of me in tights grace the pages of xanga:
But first, Sunset out my hotel window. Gotta love ’em.
Open Water swim. I’m no poster boy for form… but you get the idea. (being as long as your not drowning your doing OK)
For once I’m not the one behind the camera, Ok, this is a pic of me getting out of the water, exciting? Yeah. Why, you ask? Because I’m not being pulled out by a life guard. And because in about 34 seconds from the moment this picture was taken I’m going to be riding my bike.
Ok fast forward past one transition and 25 km (15.5 miles) and that brings us up to this. I am about to enter my second transition and go into the run portion of the race. I am undoing my shoes so I can slide my feet out for what is called a “flying dismount”.
So what’s a flying dismount? Dismounting the bike into a full run without ever actually “stopping”. As seen here.
Next would be run, the pics didn’t turn out good, so use your imagination. All in all, it was my best race to date. I came out of the water close to the front of my Heat. Because my age group started last. I pulled on everyone in the bike and run portions. Averaging a seasonal best of 22.4 mph on the bike (lovin’ them apples) and out sprinting everyone for a finish on the run.
Just imagine what’s gonna happen when I don’t have a head cold. So I think I got a shot of doing well at New York– where I go head to head with the cadets of West Point for a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T…. it’s going to be a race, that’s for sure. Actually, those guys are way good, and a lot older. But all the same.
’till next time,
